| Medicare (Part A/Skilled) Services requir e a three night
qualifying stay in a hospital and the patient's medical
condition requires skilled nursing care. Patient's may be
covered for up to 100 days depending on their medical condition . The first 20 will be paid 100% and the
next 80 days paid 80%. After 100 days, there must be a 60 day break
in the illness to re-qualify.
Medicare (Part A) covers post-hospital stays for patients needing extra nursing
care. The Manor provides continuous licensed nursing care to meet the needs of
patients requiring more care. The daily price for Med A care is set by a patients
level of illness and is paid by Medicare.
Medicare (Part B) covers restorative therapies. The therapies available
include physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), and speech therapy (ST).
Therapies are provided as often as ordered by the doctor.
Outpatient (Part B) Therapy is available to area residents. Therapy
servicesPT, OT, and STare available on an outpatient basis. To receive
outpatient therapy services under Medicare Part B, a doctors order, Medicare and
insurance cards are needed.
Adult Care is the level of service normally associated with nursing homes and
includes assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs). ADLs such as dressing,
toileting, transferring from bed to wheelchair, eating, bathing, and medication are all
covered for a flat daily fee. There are no additional charges for levels of care as
patients get older. Medical supplies are charged separately.
Alzheimers Care is provided on our Special Care Unit (SCU) also known as
Sunflower Lane. SCU residents receive the same adult care services as other residents only
with a higher staff to resident ratio which includes an activity director dedicated to
daily programming for our 12 dementia patients.
Medicaid reimbursement from the State of Kansas pays for about half the
Manors residents. Medicaid is the government health care benefit for citizens who
have exhausted their resources. To qualify for this benefit requires an application
process through the Butler County SRS, a process with which our bookkeeper and admissions
coordinator are glad to help families.
VA Contract services are limited to veterans designated by the VA. For

Community Services
- Adult Day Care is provided for persons needing assistance with ADLs on an
occasional, daytime basis. Services include a place to rest during the day, medication
administration, and meals. To participate in Day Care an application/assessment process is
required to insure that we can meet the patients needs. The cost for this service is
$50.00 per day.
- Respite Care provides overnight short term stays. Limited funding is
available to pay for this service. Contact the Director of Social Services and
Admissions for more information.
- Durable Medical Equipment (DME) such as hospital beds, walkers, canes,
wheelchairs, are available for loan to local residents as they are available.
- Blood Pressure Checks are given by Manor nursing staff for persons needing a
regular blood pressure reading. Simply drop by and ask a nurse.
- Blood Tests may be drawn at the Manor for local residents by making arrangements
between your family physician and the Manors lab which comes to Whitewater at least
weekly to draw blood.
All together, Wheat State Manor, Inc. has 65 beds, twelve of which are on the SCU. The
remaining 53 beds in the general population include 14 single/private rooms and
